As members are aware the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution(Dept of Consumer Affairs), Govt of India, vide its Notification No GSR-425(E) dated 17 July 2006 amended various provisions in the Standards of Weight & Measures(Packaged Commodities)Rules, 1977.

The main amendment made was for mandatory printing of name & address of manufacturer along telephone number and name of contact person etc whom consumer can contact in case any complaint, and e-mail address, if available.

IBMA along with other organizations industry had submitted our objections/suggestions in regard to the above mentioned amendment and requested the Government, to create awareness and give adequate time to the industry, before implementation of the Notification No GSR-425(E) dated 17 July 2007, which had come into effect from 14 January 2007. We are glad to inform members that the Government has now acceded to our demand and differed implementation of the above Notification upto 31st December 2007. In this connection,we have received letter No WM-10(8)/2005 dated 5th July 2007 from the Director(Legal Metrology ), Dept of Consumer Affairs, Govt of India, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, a copy of which is enclosed for your information.
